Community Guidelines
Effective August 10, 2026
Cosmo works because people trust what they see here. These guidelines keep it that way. They apply everywhere on Cosmo — posts, comments, groups, reviews, messages, and profiles — and they're part of our Terms of Service.
Cosmo App LLC. These guidelines are part of our Terms of Service.
Short version: be real, be kind, and treat the people on the other side of the screen like they're standing in front of you.
Who Cosmo is for
Cosmo is for everyone 18 and older who cares about hair, skin, nails, grooming, tattoos, and self-care — every gender, every texture, every skin tone, every budget. Professionals here range from barbers to braiders to injectors to tattoo artists.
You must be 18 or older to have an account. If we learn an account belongs to someone under 18, we'll remove it.
Be respectful
Disagreeing is fine. Being cruel isn't.
Not allowed:
- Harassment, bullying, threats, or pile-ons
- Hate speech or slurs, or attacking people based on race, ethnicity, national origin, religion, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, age, body size, or hair texture
- Sexual harassment or unwanted sexual comments, including in messages
- Encouraging others to harass someone
- Sharing someone's private information — address, phone number, workplace, or anything else they didn't choose to make public
- Screenshotting and posting someone's private messages to shame them
On body image: Cosmo is a place people come to feel good about themselves. Don't post content that mocks someone's appearance, promotes disordered eating, or encourages self-harm. If you're struggling, please reach out to someone you trust or a crisis line in your area — and know that our team will always remove content that targets you.
Keep it authentic
Trust is the whole point of this app.
- Be yourself. Don't impersonate another person, professional, or business.
- Don't misrepresent credentials. Only claim licenses, certifications, or credentials you actually hold. This is especially serious for medical, med-spa, tattoo, and piercing services.
- Don't misuse business attributes. Only self-identify your business as Black-owned, women-owned, or LGBTQ+-owned if it's true.
- Post your own work. Professionals: don't pass off someone else's portfolio as yours.
Reviews
- Write reviews based on your real, firsthand experience.
- Don't offer, request, or accept anything in exchange for a review.
- Don't review your own business, or have friends and family post reviews for you.
- Don't use reviews to threaten, extort, or retaliate against someone.
- Disagreements about price, lateness, or results are fair to write about — describe what happened rather than attacking the person.
We remove reviews that break these rules. Professionals can report a review they believe violates them.
Photos and video
Beauty is visual, and most of what's shared here is someone's face or body. That comes with responsibility.
- Get consent before posting someone else's image. Professionals: you must have your client's permission (and a written model release where the law requires one) before posting photos or video of them. "They were in my chair" is not consent.
- Photos of children are only okay if you're their parent or guardian, or you have that person's permission. Never post identifying details about a child.
- No nudity or sexual content. Body and skin treatments sometimes require showing skin — that's fine when it's clearly clinical or service-related and covers what needs covering. Content that's sexual in nature, or that sexualizes anyone, will be removed.
- No graphic content for shock value. Medical, tattoo, and treatment photos can show real healing, aftercare, and results; they shouldn't be gratuitous.
- Don't post other people's photos as your own. Credit and consent both matter.
Safety and regulated services
Some of what's booked on Cosmo carries real physical risk. Take it seriously.
- No offering services you aren't licensed or permitted to provide. This includes injectables, lasers, tattooing, piercing, and permanent makeup.
- No selling or sourcing regulated products — prescription products, injectables, or anything requiring a license to obtain or administer — through posts, groups, or messages.
- No medical advice. Sharing your experience is welcome; diagnosing someone or telling them to skip professional care is not.
- No promoting dangerous DIY procedures — at-home injectables, self-tattooing kits marketed to strangers, chemical treatments meant for licensed use.
- Aftercare tips and honest experiences are welcome. "Here's how to inject yourself" is not.
Bookings, payments, and scams
- Keep bookings on Cosmo. It's how appointments, reminders, and verified reviews work.
- Never send money to someone who contacts you asking for it off-platform. Professionals set their own deposit policies, and those are shown on their booking page — if someone in messages is pressuring you to pay through a link or an unfamiliar app, report it.
- No scams, fake listings, phishing, or fraudulent charges.
- Professionals: honor the pricing, deposit, and cancellation policies you publish.
Groups
Anyone can start a group. If you do, you're its moderator.
- Moderators are responsible for their group: remove content that breaks these guidelines, and don't use your role to bully or silence people you disagree with. You're acting for yourself, not for Cosmo.
- Groups can have their own culture and rules, as long as they don't conflict with these guidelines.
- No spam. Don't join groups only to drop promotional links. Sharing your own work is welcome when it's part of the conversation, not a billboard.
- Groups that exist to harass, sell regulated products, or organize rule-breaking will be removed.
Messages
Direct messages are for talking about services and community — not for cold-pitching, spamming, or sending unsolicited explicit content. Anything that would break these guidelines in public breaks them in a DM too.
Spam and platform abuse
Don't: create multiple accounts to evade rules, scrape data, post repetitive or automated content, buy or sell accounts, manipulate ratings or follows, or exploit bugs. If you find a bug, report it — we'd genuinely rather hear from you.
What happens if you break these rules
We look at context and intent. Depending on what happened, we may:
- Remove the content
- Restrict features (posting, messaging, booking)
- Suspend the account temporarily
- Remove a group or a group moderator
- Permanently ban the account
Serious violations — threats, sexual content involving minors, fraud, practicing without a license — can result in immediate removal without warning, and we'll report to law enforcement where required.
Reporting and appeals
To report something: tap the "…" menu on any post, comment, profile, or conversation and choose Report. Pick a reason — you don't have to explain in detail. You can also block anyone, which hides your content from them and theirs from you, both directions.
If we got it wrong: email support@bookwithcosmo.com and tell us what happened. We read them, and we do reverse decisions.
If you're in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. We can help with an account; we can't help fast enough with an emergency.
Changes
We'll update these guidelines as Cosmo grows and as we learn what the community needs. Material changes will be announced in the app.
